He's not done much TV for a while so its nice to see him back Anyone seen him in it and what do you think?

I have. I think he is great on it, sadly that isn't true of the show anymore. The plot lines are stale and predictable. Maybe next year it will perk up again once Amanda Redman leaves. If it doesn't I'm afraid that this may be a short term return to TV for Nick.

After watching a few eps I think I agree. Like you said hopefully a revitalised cast will lift the writing

I've watched the entire new series. 10 episodes. Sadly I think they were 3 for 10 in terms of quality episodes. Those three were brilliant and New Tricks at its best. Sadly the other 7 were rather drab in my opinion. It's frustrating because I like all of the characters individually, I think the actors portray them well, they blend well as a team. The scripts are sadly sub par thought.
