Channel 72 began Series One again on Monday. In Episode One the whole Scene where Gary asks Reg's grandson, in 1993 for directions has been cut out. Consequently the viewer is left wondering when Gary tries to remind Reg outside the Royal Oak in 1940 that he had just given him directions for Hugh Gaitskell House.
In Episode Two shown here on Tuesday the whole scene where Gary purchases his 1940's clothing hat and shoes and some coins from a second hand shop in 1993 is now missing. So we see miraculously going from Jeans and T-shirt to Suit, overcoat and trilby without any explanation as to how he found them. But what makes it worse is that the viewer is not told how Gary still has small change dated 1940 and earlier after the money from the sale of his biro pen runs out.
This is sacrilege!!

Sadly 72 is a commercial station. They will have wanted to keep the episode to 30 minutes whilst still fitting in at least two, probably 3 commercial breaks. That obviously doesn't fit with 30 minute episodes that originally aired with no commercial breaks. They did she same thing with Fawlty Towers a few years back and got howled down and started showing unedited episodes. Sadly Goodnight Sweetheart doesn't have the mainstream following of Fawlty Towers and thus they'll probably get away with it.
