Just a quick thought, Terry.
If you ever did get around to watching a full re-run of the series, would you do so with the audio commentary on, or just in it's original format to go with the flow?
I ask this as I am curious to know just how much interaction you would have had with all parties concerned, and what, if any peculiar memories you would have collected from each of the episodes, and the cast, etc.
Many thanks.

What does the audio commentary say? What kind of things are offered?

What does the audio commentary say? What kind of things are offered? Well the commentaries are of good quality from Lo and Mo, the writer from the series/ episode concerned, and generally very rewarding regarding the insight to each episode, or particular thought they had in retrospect to what was happening on the screen at the time. They are complimentary to the cast and almost everyone involved in the show, whatever their particular input. I also think the mini bar was very generous at each recording, the atmosphere is very much a boy's club at times.

Too funny. I think I would watch it with the original audio.

Hi Terry,
Did the writers ever consider Gary meeting Phoebe in the 90's as an old lady? i know he tried it once early on but i am surprised it was never attempted again?

The answer is yes, but it wasn't really developed as an idea.

I know the reason why Dervla Kirwan left was that she felt Phoebe was not expanding as a role, was it the same reason Michelle Holmes left or was it for different reasons?

Dervla had several reasons for leaving, personal and professional. In Michelle's case, she felt that hers was the only character with no growth potential. The characters in the 40s were fun to play, and Vic's character knew Gary's secret. Michelle felt that all Yvonne ever did was was moan at Gary.

Thanks for answering, I'm going to be greedy and ask another. Do you know anyone else who was in the running for replaceing them before Elizabeth Carling/Emma Amos got the parts?

Lo and Mo took the lead on casting Liz and Emma. I remember seeing a short list, but to be honest, I couldn't tell you after all these years who they were.

I think they did a pretty good jobs with the re cast. It's a bit odd for eps 1 & 2 of series 4 but after that it all fell into place. But I guess it is always going to be a discussion point!

Yeah. Changing both lead female roles was unfortunate but unavoidable. From a directorial point of view, it was a positive thing though. Liz and Emma were both excited about their characters, and that made the transition much easier for everyone.

Terry,
The role of Peter was played by a lad called Chase Marks.
Was/is he a relative of Laurence?

I don't think Nick would mind me telling this story.
One time on an early morning shoot on location for 'Fools', the cast and crew were awaiting the sunrise for a specific GV shot to proceed the scene that they were there to shoot. The sun rising over this particular landscape was beautiful, and that's probably why a young couple in a house right next to where the crew were waiting, appeared in their bedroom window stark naked to greet the new day.
Nick said that everyone on the crew froze so as not to spook the couple, but after about ten seconds, the young woman glanced to her right, only to discover an entire tv crew glancing up at her and her husband. In her haste to cover herself, she grabbed the curtain, and the whole curtain assembly collapsed on her and her husband.
I'd love to have been there.
