A thread for your favourite series of Goodnight Sweetheart. What would be your most complete series, and why do you think it so? A poll is available for those wishing to conduct a scientific approach.

For me, it's a very close race between Series 3 and Series 5. Both series, in my opinion, represented the show at its absolute best. Ultimately, I'll go with Series 3 for a couple of reasons, the biggest one being "Between The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea", arguably the greatest GNS episode ever made. The other reason I'm going with Series 3 is due to Series 5's mishandling of Ron's foray into the past, which should've been memorable, but ultimately fell flat. It's the only weak episode in an otherwise stellar series. Series 3, on the other hand, has no weak episodes. Thus, it is my favorite

For me it is series 3. I think Gary having his store right at the time portal really added to the show. There were some great story lines in there along the way also!

I'll go with Series 2, I enjoyed watching Gary and Phoebe's relationship develop along with Gary becoming a local star.

I'll go with Series 2, I enjoyed watching Gary and Phoebe's relationship develop along with Gary becoming a local star. It is one of the very best! And for the same reasons it used to be my favourite.. But now it is Series Three that rocks my boat; I know there are two episodes in there that leave me a little non-plussed, but the rest more than make up for that for me. As with other forums, I expect even lowly Series Four will reap reward somewhere in the heart of a true fan of the show.

Got to be first and best .......series 1 for me Slightly off topic but I've always wondered why there was only non - diegetic sound used in the 1st season but not the rest. I felt at times it helped create more atmosphere, for example there is a non - diegetic music playing when Gary and Phoebe walk through a cemetary in "The More I See You" (S1 EP4)

Hmm, Yeah, I like Series 1.... but it's only because it introduces the amazing story, that lasts for 6 series

Sometimes little differences like tweaking the theme tune, ( think The Walton's series one-two), and cast differences are the more obvious, but you have raised a good point with your question, ryan. I can only think it was done to set the tone, or mood for the portrayal of the time. Certainly by the next series things had changed in the storyline, and perhaps the production did not call for the reassurance that such music usually brings?

I watched series 2 back to back this weekend, and it's definitely the best series in my opinion. Every second of every episode is a masterpiece.

I love series five the best, closely followed by either series two or three.

Making my way through from the beginning again. I watched series in one sitting and loved every bit of it. Now on series two which is probably my favourite because of the developing relationship between Gary and Phoebe but also the development of Reg's character.
