A thread was started asking which Phoebe you perferred so, which Yvonne did you prefer? I myself perferred Michelle Holmes. Funnier, better acting, more realistic scenes like when she found the suitcase full of stuff Gary was taking back in time, the arguments about how much Gary was spending on WW2 stuff and the sarky but funny way she belittled Gary and the amateur dramatics club. Michelle was Yvonne. Emma's acting was appalling and wooden, a boring airhead with an irritating voice from her very first scene. Emma changed Yvonnes character completely, and not for the better. Talk about bad casting. I like nearly all of Michelle's scenes but found only one or two of Emma's scenes mildly amusing.

I think Emma's version of Yvonne was too ambitious. Before the actress was changed, there was no sign that she was a business woman.

I agree. It wasnt just the actress that changed; it was the entire character. Maybe it would have been better if the storyline had involved gary and yvonne splitting up, and gary meeting a new woman in the present day played by emma.

I liked them both ,but preferred Emma, imho Emma was the better actress. This is backed up by other stuff I have seen both actresses in.
Emma as Marie Lloyd was fantastic.

I feel strongly that it is always a miscalculation to cast a new actor in an existing role. Having Gary find a new wife in the present would have solved that production dilemma much more convincingly than asking Emma to succeed Michelle. Much the same could be said about Phoebe's replacement. Why couldn't Gary have established an entirely different relationship in the 1940s instead of changing actresses? Dervla was irreplaceable, though Liz gave the challenge an honourable attempt. Tintwistle

I like that idea, although if Gary fell in love with a new partner, why wouldn’t he tell her about his time travel? He wouldn’t have to tell her about Phoebe, but in terms of the time travel itself, there would be no reason for him not so. Assuming that the new relationship would not have all the baggage that prevented Gary from telling Yvonne in the first place.

Absolutely, as I've just posted on Terry's questions, Emma was excellent as Marie Lloyd and we should see more of her doing Music Hall. We used to have some good Music Hall restaurants in Melbourne but looks like they've all gone. However there is a Musical Matinee planned for 17th August at the Frankston Arts Centre - south east Melbourne - "A Day at the Great Music Hall" and only $17 a ticket - 10.30 am and 1.30pm.

At first it was emma as Michelle grated on me but the more I wear out my boxset I think I prefer the first Yvonne, which is the complete opposite of my views of Pheobe!

I must admit that while still prefering Emma on watching them more I find episodes where I think Michelle was great

Michelle Holmes all the way. I found Emma's acting very awkward and she keeps pulling a funny face that really annoyed me, sorry Emma. She is probably a good actress in other things but not this.
