My daughter, who was only three when GNS first came on tv, watches it all the time on DVD now and said if the portal closed at the end, won't that stop Gary going through it at the begining if it's not there. I replied that it's open and closed at the same time but in different time zones. She gave me one of her comical expressions and asked how. I explained that it closed in 1999 but was open up until then. When the portal closed in 1999 and Gary got trapped, he lived the rest of his life from the forties onwards with his wife and son. Meanwhile, in the sixties, Gary was born, grew up became a tv repairman and married Yvonne. He found the portal and met Phoebe for the first time starting his six year adventure until 1999 when the portal closed and Gary got trapped, living out the rest of his life from the forties onwards. Meanwhile, in the sixties... Gary never met the other Garys because they were either six years behind or six years in front of him. It's an everlasting circle of events that could only be changed if one of the time engineers went back and closed the portal before Gary found it in 1993 but we know that didn't happen.

Certainly an intriguing take upon the time - travel situation. So if you're saying the circle of events is forever repeated and Gary is reborn again and again wouldn't that result in multiple universes existing solely due to Gary's presence in the world. It makes it sound as if once Gary dies the world starts over again when he was originally born.

ryan1992...you're not thinking four dimensionally. Gary only lives once, he's not reborn and there are no multiverses and the world does not start over again. For the moment, take away the portal. Gary is born grows up gets married etc but doesn't find the portal which means he lives out his life (probably with Yvonne) into the 21st century. But he does find the portal, and in 1999 the portal closes trapping him in the forties making him live out his life from there on. This does not change the fact that he was born in the sixties and grew up etc. Consider these events...Gary is born, he gets married, finds the portal. These events have happened, are happening and will happen depending on which part of the timeline you're on. From Gary's POV, all this only happens once. Unlike most time travellers, he can't pick and choose what time to go to, the forties are moving along day by day in sync with the nineties so if he spends a day in the forties, he will be missed in the nineties hence the trade fair excuses he gave Yvonne. This is best explained when you watch GNS on dvd. The first episode sees Gary finding the portal, the last one sees him getting trapped. No go back to the first episode and Gary finds the portal for the first time, the first time for him but not for us. Flick forwards and backwards through the entire series, and Gary is doing everything for the first time from his POV but not ours. It's only a everlasting circle of events to someone who can move freely back and forth along the timeline (meaning pick and choose the year) but to Gary who can't, everything he does, he only does once. To see Gary do the same thing multiple times requires free movement in time. Another example. In 2012, we know there are six Star Wars films but if you went back to 1977 when Star Wars first came out there was only one but that doesn't change the fact that there are still six, the other five have yet to be made in that timeline but have already been made in another. So no, Gary is not reborn again and again. He is only born once, to see it repeated you have to travel back in time and from that point on the timeline, it's the first time and it doesn't matter how many times you go back to that point, it's still happening for the first time. So if you went back in time to before you were born and continued your life from there, in 19?? you would still be born, grow up and live your live as you did before you went back in time and because you're in a time before your birth, that has yet to happen and will happen for the first time from your parents POV but not yours.

I think you are missing an important point, Kelli. This life time is not real. We are all living out a communal dream or story if you like. Refer Sir Francis Bacon's Shake Spear play "As You Like It" - 'All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts,...'
We may have a choice about what parts we want to play, but the beauty of it all is that there is to some extent, free choice, so the direction can be varied but the end road is the same.
I know it isn't real from some of my personal experiences. There is simply no other way to explain some of the pre-planned events which have taken place.
Now chances are that every story line both on this planet in every age, along with all the fiction that has been written can be accessed at any time. It is just a matter of getting the right frequencies as Ron found out.
More on this when I write it up in my sequel, which I think I'll call, "It's a Lovely Day Tomorrow".

Perhaps I should explain more about Sir Francis Bacon and how we know that he not only wrote the Shake Spear plays but some of Marlowe's, the Sonnets, and Edmund Spenser, and Cervantes.
There are a good number of books which you can download free on line about Francis and the evidence now is overwhelming. He was the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth I and should have become King of England instead of Scots James I. If you have KJV version of the Bible, look up Psalm 46. Count to the 46th word from the beginning and then to the 46th word from the end, ignoring Selah which means 'pause'. Francis was 46 when he got his first good position from James and was then given the job of editing the new bible. He was very much into Freemasonry, the Rosicrucians and especially the Mystery School devoted to the Goddess Athena who was known as a 'Spear Shaker'.
He emphasised his name 'Francis' in Henry IV, repeating it over and over again some 39 times, and then he emphasised his adopted parents surname 'Bacon' in Love's Labour Lost.
