I hear strong rumours of a US Network remaking Sweetheart next year. Interesting, but I doubt that it will be successful.

I would expect a US version to be a poor remake as most of their attempts at recreating UK shows are tat..

'Sweetheart' was more of a comedy drama than a sit com. They don't have that in the 30 minute format out here. Can't see it working if they try it.

The idea of a US show really worries me. Especially in that 30 minute format, which lets face it, isn't 30 minutes it's 22 minutes of actual content. If someone like HBO or Showtime, or these days even Netflix, were to take it on as a series, perhaps do something different with it with hour long episodes in a more serious tone, I could live with that. We'll just have to wait and see.

Its not the sort of thing that would translate well - the London and the Blitz is too integral to the storyline.
I would deffo go see the stage show - I love music from that Era and of course Garys' compostitions!

I agree that the Blitz era is an integral part of the series. It couldn't be transplanted into some other location. So the US network concerned should be advised perhaps to finance a British venture. Perhaps throw in a few more GI's for American interest. They could possibly make more of the flip back to 1886 and maybe place the other end of Duckett's Passage then in Old New York with some Vaudeville.
