Causality is the relationship between an event (the cause) and a second event (the effect) where the second event is understood as a consequence of the first. GNS is full of this and is a more complex series then people first think which is why my daughter and I love it so much. Everything Gary does in GNS, he's done before. (See Circle of time).
First example is Reg. His grandson is also a policeman who visits Gary in his 90's shop but 40's Reg claims he doesn't have a son so Gary does some researching and finds that Reg does have a son and brings them and the boys mother together. But this has happened before otherwise the 90's Reg wouldn't be a policeman talking about his dad and grandad being policemen which makes Gary ask about Reg in the 40's in the first place.
Second example is Ron. Gary originally saved the child in the burning building in the forties but the credit went to Ron's grandfather causing him to be a hero. When Gary tells Ron that he and Phoebe were going to Liverpool, Ron asks him to find out if the story of his grandfather being a hero was true or not. Gary again ends up saving the child but the credit again goes to Ron's grandfather. (See the episode for more detail) Gary then takes the newspaper with the story back to the nineties and gives it to Ron confirming his life long hope that the story was true. Gary of course doesn't tell him the truth, he just wanted to make him happy.
The series is full of these but because they're not taken seriously is what makes the series so entertaining, especially when they break the law of infinity loops. (see my post 'Lady in red')
