I just watched the episode "And Mother Came Too" from series four of "Goodnight Sweetheart," and something about Donald's mother, Dolly, seemed oddly familiar to me. It turns out that this character was portrayed by Rowena Cooper, who much earlier (1970) had played a prominent, recurring role in three episodes of "A Family at War." There, in September of 1940, Rowena Cooper was seen as Susan Reynolds, director of a Women's Voluntary Service (WVS) Study Centre. A quarter century younger at the time, of course, her character was a love interest of philandering RAF airman David Ashton. The talented Rowena Cooper was brilliantly believable in both roles.

I recognised her too as someone we have seen many times. When you take a look at her career it is very impressive - www.imdb.com/name/nm0178357/ Another one we've all seen many times is Harry Landis who plays Manny in two of the first series episodes. The funniest line there from memory was when he tells Reg, "Look at Me". Harry went on to play in many episodes in 1995 and 1996 in Eastenders.
