For me it is a tie between Reg and Ron.
I guess the reasons for Reg are pretty obvious. He is kind, caring and innocent. Whilst he is not the brightest person, I actually don't think of him as a fool. He has his own way of navigating the world, and really has done very well for himself.
Ron is perhaps a little less obvious. He's loyal as heck. I am pretty positive that I would have dumped Gary as a friend pretty early on. He knows how to have fun and for the most part lives life for the moment. Something I think that we could all do a little more of.

I agree with you on Reg. He completely transcends the typical "dimwitted but lovable oaf" character we've come to know on sitcoms throughout the decades. He takes what life has given him and embraces it with an at-times childlike innocence. Pay close attention to the character, and you realize he's not that stupid after all. The first time I really took notice of this, as a viewer, was during the Series 2 episode "As You Wave Me Goodbye". Gary has missed firewatching duty and is making all sorts of excuses, trying to pass it off as no big deal. Reg raises his voice and emotionally declares that that's "just not good enough". Even though it was followed by a joke to lighten the mood, that caught me off-guard as a viewer and made me think "wow". It was one of those times where he saw right through Gary's charade, and it makes you wonder if there were ever any other times he did as well. But I'm getting off-track

Agree with both for sentimental reasons..
But for sheer pathos I have to vote for Phoebe Bamford. The innocence of the girl compared to the avant-garde of the years that follow leave me nothing but fascinated.
Yep.

What I like about the Ron character is his practical "man of the world" attitude, he basically was saying to Gary without actually saying it...'look I find this whole idea of you being able to go back in time crazy and daft but if you REALLY can do it then let's look at how we can make it work for us...bottom line let's cash in on it' ;D ;D.
